A well trained dog is a HAPPY dog!

Welcome to Christine Stansfield Dog Training and Behaviour

Christine Stansfield has worked with dogs & horses for over 20 years, studying many varied training techniques. She was amongst the first people in the United Kingdom to graduate in the Higher National Certificate in Canine Behaviour and Training from Bishop Burton College, East Yorkshire, in 2003.   At present Christine is studying with the Animal Care College and has almost completed the Canine Aggression Course, in addition she is studying for the Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour with Compass Education.   Christine attends many seminars to keep up to date with dog training methods and canine behaviour modification. Christine is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers No 00920.

Christine lives in the Yorkshire Wolds between Malton and Driffield with her children Rebecca and James, 3 dogs: Peggy a Weimaraner, Bramble a Collie Cross, and Beth a Welsh Springer Spaniel who is  7 years old, 3 horses and 2 cats.

Very sad to announce that Peggy passed away on Saturday 3rd September 2011 aged 13 1/2.  A wonderful dog we were so lucky to have her as a part of our family, she will be missed by us all.

In addition to dealing with canine behavioural problems and running dog training sessions, Christine was a lecturer in Animal Management for Askham Bryan College, York until December 2006 when she decided to give up lecturing to concentrate on promoting the business.  Christine is, therefore, now available 5 days a week for home visits to help you with your dogs.

Christine appeared regularly on BBC Radio York's The Elly Show, answering listener's questions and talking to Elly about dogs and quite often horses too.  She can now be heard from time to time discussing topical dog related issues.

Christine is an advocate of clicker training and has found that this is a great way of stimulating the dog's mind. However, she is also aware that not all people or dogs are suited to this this type of teaching.  In response to the individual (person or dog) Christine is absolutely adaptable in her approach, believing that positive reinforcement to whatever situation is the key to a WELL TRAINED AND HAPPY DOG.

Christine's mantra is "a well trained dog leads to a Happy Dog and a Happy Owner". The development of mutual trust, understanding and respect between dog and owner is of paramount importance. If this is developed and continues then a HAPPY existence will naturally follow.

Christine offers dog training classes in the training barn at Thirkleby Manor, one to one training in your own home, behaviour consultations in your own home and residential training for those who don't have time to train their dog or have behaviour problems they don't feel able to overcome.  See the "Our Services" page for more details of these services and "Course Dates" for courses over the coming months.

Christine has been invited by ex-clients, Nick and Melinda Garrity to run a weekend workshop at their beautiful 17th Century Farmhouse B&B in Somerset in October, see our services page for more details.

The kennels are well established and very busy with all our residents going home happy and healthy after their holiday at Wolds Way Canine.  Many dogs return on a regular basis and come from far afield.  One owner told us she has never before been able to go on holiday and not worry about her dogs.  As we are licensed for a maximum of 12 dogs the level of care and attention our residents receive is second to none.  Please see the page dedicated to the kennels for more information.
